Episode 021: Jesus, Satan, and the Temptation in the Desert (Mass Readings for March 1, 2020)
Episode Summary
Our Gospel today is the story of Jesus’ temptation in the desert. There he submits to a threefold temptation which corresponds to that of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and the threefold concupiscence listed in 1 John 2:16. We’ll discuss the nature of Satan’s temptation and the manner in which his temptations may have been attractive. Finally, we’ll discuss how Jesus takes on the role of the New Israel and the New Davidic King by undoing the sins of Israel and the sins of Solomon.
